Weekend In Review: 175th Convention Days & 100th Equal Rights Amendment March & Rally

Town Supervisor Ferrara joined ‘Women March in Seneca Falls’ for the march and rally in support of making the Equal Rights Amendment the addition to the U.S. Constitution over the weekend. Joining the festivities were Governor Hochul and Attorney General Leticia James among the headliners for the kickoff celebrations.

At the rally, Supervisor Ferrara presented a resolution to Women March in Seneca Falls’ Susan Schuermann and Adrienne Emmo. The resolution commemorated this historic anniversary of the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention in conjunction with the Centennial celebration of the first time the ERA was proposed and revealed in Seneca Falls in July 1923 by Alice Paul at the First Presbyterian Church.

Ferrara presented Governor Hochul with a Resolution celebrating the 175th anniversary of the Convention containing the resolutions drafted in 1848 which followed the Declaration of Sentiments. Hochul is the first woman Governor of the State to have been elected in 2022 and the Honorable Leticia James became the first female to hold the title of NY Attorney General in 2018.Also in town were U.S. Congresswoman Cori Bush (MO) leading the charge for Generation Ratify; Anne Fuller, Granddaughter of Crystal Eastman; Coline Jenkins, Great-great granddaughter of Elizabeth Cady Stanton; Kate Kelly, 2023 ERA Convention Lead Organizer & Author/Ordinary Equality; Pooja Dharma/Generation Ratify; Julie C Suk, Author/We the Women & After Misogyny; Alyssa Hunt & Rachel Rupison, Alice Paul Institute; Eleanor Smeal, Feminist Majority; Zakiya Thomas, ERA Coalition/Fund for Women’s Equality; Carolyn Maloney & Christian Nunes, NYS & National NOW; Ana Dobrot, Co-author/2020 Youth Declaration of Sentiments.

Special Meeting of the Seneca Falls Town Board to be held on July 27th
