Chief of Police

On January 1, 2023, Timothy Snyder began serving as Interim Police Chief.  He has served 23 years in the policing profession. As Chief Executive Officer of the Seneca Falls Police Department, he is responsible for administering the Department in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and ensuring that organizational objectives are met. The Chief reports directly to the Seneca Falls Town Board and is assisted in the management of the Department by a Lieutenant and four Sergeants. These leaders collectively are recognized as the Town of Seneca Falls Police Executive Team, the highest-level management team within the Department.

Prior to this assignment, he served as Lieutenant with the Department, from 2015 to 2022.  In that role, he was second in command and responsible for the road patrol division and direct supervisor of patrol sergeants, the criminal investigation division and assisted with facilitating investigations with outside agencies. As Lieutenant, he worked closely with the Chief of Police in studying crime reports, use of force reports, and current legislature in law enforcement to determine trends, and made recommendations for changes in organizational and operating policies and procedures. Snyder also managed and participated in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs.

Chief Snyder oversees activities of the police department personnel in their efforts to preserve order, protect life and property, investigate crimes and enforce laws. He monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures and recommends, within departmental policy, appropriate actions. He serves as the departments NYS Accreditation Manager and as the internal affairs administrator for the department. Chief Snyder also serves on numerous committees for various community partner agencies.

A native of Seneca Falls, New York, Chief Snyder is a graduate of Mynderse Academy. He was employed at Gould’s Pumps ITT before pursuing his dream of becoming a police officer. From 1997-2000, Chief Snyder worked part-time as a Correction Officer for the Seneca County Sheriff’s office. Snyder was sponsored by the Seneca County Sheriff’s office to attend the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Police Academy in 2000, to pursue his interest in law enforcement. After graduating from the Police Academy, he began working part-time for the Seneca County Sheriff’s office and as a full-time dispatcher for the Seneca Falls Police Department. In June 2001, Snyder was sworn in as a full-time Police Officer in the Village of Seneca Falls. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2010 and in 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

  • Chief Snyder was selected as the first Seneca Falls Police Departments’ Law Enforcement Bicycle Patrol Officer in 2003
  • Seneca County Stop DWI Officer of the Year in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006
  • Appointed the Seneca Falls Police Departments’ first Accreditation Program Manager in 2014
  • Recipient of the John Kimball O’Neil Certificate of Achievement in 2014 and 2019

In 2016 Chief Snyder was 1 of 30 second in command in NYS to attended Leadership in Police Organizations training.
