Nominations sought for 2023 Anthony Varacalli Day awards

Do you know a hero?  Antonio Varacalli, the Italian immigrant who saved a woman from drowning in the Seneca Falls Barge Canal in 1917, is the namesake to the “Antonio Varacalli Day – Celebration of Heroes” event.

Individuals are being asked to nominate a person they see as a hero to be awarded the Annual Antonio Varacalli Day Award, which will be presented Saturday, April 15, 2023 on the Bridge Street Bridge.

Additionally, all non-profit organizations are invited to choose a “Community Angel” from their organization to be honored during the event.

The theme “Who in Your Life Has Influenced You the Most” has been chosen as a topic for the essay contest which students of Elizabeth Cady Stanton elementary school will participate.

Click here to nominate your Hero and Community Angel. The deadline is March 31.
